Recently, I overheard someone dismissing the concept of femininity, claiming it’s outdated and devaluing to women. It struck me that they were missing a crucial point about what feminine energy truly represents.
When I speak of the feminine, I’m referring to an energy that adds depth and unveils your power. Feminine energy embodies feeling and fluidity; it does not oppose the masculine but rather exists in harmony with it.
Tapping into your feminine energy—regardless of whether you identify as male or female—has nothing to do with your style, sensuality, or appearance. While these aspects can be related, they don’t define feminine energy in my world.
In Episode #21 of my podcast, Feminine energy 101, I delve into the richness and beauty of feminine energy. If you’re new here, I’m Joëlle, a feminine embodiment coach dedicated to helping you access more of yourself. My mission is to empower you to master the art of being yourself and to feel the flow that comes from daring to embrace your true essence.
Understanding Feminine Energy
When I mention the feminine, what comes to your mind? Perhaps you envision flowing dresses, long wavy hair, red lipstick, high heels, or dancing with sensuality. Often, we try to understand concepts by considering their counterparts. So, when we think of feminine, we often think of its “opposite”: masculine energy.
What does the masculine evoke? Speed, strength, darker colors, muscles, and assertiveness—all valid associations based on your life experiences. However, I encourage you to explore what feminine energy can mean beyond these traditional images.
Consider these alternative symbols:
- The Moon and the Sun (Moon as feminine, Sun as masculine)
- Shiva and Shakti
- Water and the Container
- Sense and Direction
- Creation and Consciousness
None of these hold superiority or judgment; they simply represent different existences and purposes that are deeply interconnected.
The Balance of Energies
It’s essential to recognize that feminine and masculine energies are not tied to gender identity. Everyone possesses both energies, regardless of their gender. From a coaching perspective, the feminine embodies the “flow” energy, while the masculine represents the “go” energy.
Is one better than the other? Absolutely not.
So why do I, as a feminine embodiment coach, emphasize the feminine? Many of us have been raised in a predominantly masculine environment—valuing drive, ambition, and achievement—often at the expense of creativity, ease, and connection.
My role is to remind you of the importance of both energies. While you may be well-versed in the “go” mindset, I help you practice embodying the “flow.”
A Practical Example
Let me share a recent coaching call with a client craving more structure and direction in her life—essentially seeking a more masculine approach. She shared that while she was planning and taking action, she often felt overwhelmed and would retreat.
This pattern is common among many women. When driven solely by productivity and neglecting the feminine, we may freeze, feeling restricted and disconnected from our pleasure and flow. Conversely, an over-reliance on the feminine can lead to chaos.
The solution lies in finding balance. We discussed reframing her understanding of structure—seeing it as a framework that allows her creativity and devotion to flow, rather than a rigid system demanding discipline.
By softening into her feminine energy while maintaining the direction provided by her masculine energy, she could find a harmonious balance.
Reflecting on Your Energy
Take a moment to reflect: Have you recently felt off balance? Perhaps your masculine-driven mindset led you to burnout or a sense of suffocation. Being aware of your feminine energy can be invaluable in these moments. It allows you to pause and clarify your motivations, connecting with the depth of your desires rather than focusing solely on outcomes.
I have another example from a friend who felt burnt out while juggling her business and parenting. When I asked her why she was “working so hard” (her words), she said it was to be successful. I encouraged her to define what success meant to her, which ultimately came down to spending time with her family. This realization allowed her to reassess her approach and ensure her business aligned with her true desires.
Embracing the Feminine
As a feminine embodiment coach, my focus is on helping you understand not just where you want to go (the masculine) but why you want to go there in the first place (the feminine).
I invite you to consider your current projects and identify both the masculine and feminine energies at play. If you encounter hesitation, explore where it might be coming from.
